Tranquility of Sunrise

February 6th, 2010

I once wrote on my facebook status:

I have seen so many sunsets, but not enough sunrises.

It’s true. I stay up extremely late (or early, depending how you see it), and when I do finally sleep, I don’t wake up until 5-6 hours later. Of course, by that time the sun has already risen.

During uni, I normally stay up late as well. Most of my classes don’t start till noon, so I don’t get to rise up with the sun either.

About 4 days ago, I didn’t sleep until 6:00. I peeked through my blinds and found myself gazing at the orange tinge of sunrise in surprise. I had not realized that it was already morning.

And just in time too. They say that sunrises and sunsets are best viewed before a storm. These past 3 days Sydney’s been battered with big fat drops of rain.

Some say sunsets are better. But to me, there’s something special about a sunrise. It’s like the world is at peace. There’s that magical few minutes during a sunrise when everything is quiet, and you feel like you’re all alone in the whole world. And then the spell is broken, and you hear the sounds of civilization again.

I have not seen a sunrise since.

Beautiful pictures. I love a sunrise. Many times my littlest one wakes up really early, way before the rest of us want to get up. I nurse him then and stare a bit out of the window. It is during those quiet times with my son that I have watched the most gorgeous sunrises. You are so right: It’s magical.

It’s so true, that tranquil feeling of solitude and peace is something i really miss about sunrises! I’m a night owl too, so I rarely see them! Gorgeous photos :)
I really need to get my sleeping habits into a healthier routine….but night is such a creative time !
