These rainy days reminds me of different rainy days a lifetime ago. When I was younger and still living in the Philippines, everybody around me seemed to have had a supernatural experience at one point in their lives. The tales would often pop up during Halloween, but most of the time it was during the summer black outs, where everyone would gather around the candlelit dining table, bedroom, or living room and start telling stories. Because the black outs were random and often due to storms and such, it made it even scarier. I hated it, being frightened. But I also loved it.

My fascination with the fantasy world still persists to this day. I have read countless of fantasy novels. I participated in 2 ghost tours here in Sydney (and capturing only one possible phenomena. I have photos to prove or disprove this hahaha). And I have a collection of horror stories ranging from the Gothic to the contemporary. My favourites, naturally, are tales from the 19th century, especially my well thumbed Edgar Allan Poe book that I bought vintage from Glebe Markets.

“The Masque of the Red Death” by Mr Poe. “The Old Nurse’s Tale” by Elizabeth Gaskall. “A Madman’s Manuscript” by Charles Dickens. There’s just something about 19th Century tales that Contemporary ones just don’t have, don’t you think?

As for that possibly-supernatural-phenomena, it occurred at Susannah Place, at The Rocks. It is said that a husband murdered his wife and her sailor lover at Room 8. The room’s window can be seen on the left-hand side of the sign. Sometimes a crimson lady is seen from that window. Sometimes it’s just a normal empty window. But other times, curtains can be seen showing up in photos even though none are visible in plain sight.

The latter seems to be the case in the following photos…

The Guide explained that a lot of photos taken of this place show the left window to be blocked by some curtain, while the right remains clear. Here’s a similar photo encounter from another person.

Hmmm… trick of the light, or a real phenomena?

ooh yes, i enjoy tales of the supernatural. There is something romantic AND creepy about the older tales isn't there?
I have lived in several supposedly haunted abodes, but I am the only person not to have experienced anything spooky there! D'oh! Once when I was share-housing with a bunch of other girls , the house we were in had this "basement" of sorts, which the other girls didn't like to venture to alone, because of the creepy feelings they got there, and the fact that inanimate objects had been known to move around of their own free will. ( one of my friends used to spare bathroom down there once, and she ran upstairs as white as a sheet, stammering that her toothbrush FLEW off its place beside the bathroom sink, then bounced off the floor, and landed back beside the sink!).
I was so fascinated by the room. I spent may an hour down there waiting for something to happen- I even slept there overnight on several occasions- but alas, nothing happened. I kept wondering why. maybe the ghost liked me, and wanted to leave me alone? Or maybe it didn't like me at all, so purposely deprived me of any fun? I will never know!

Oh my what a tale! If my toothbrush suddenly flew out of the bathroom I would scream as loud as when I screamed at the huntsman spider next to our mailbox last night.

You know, nothing's ever happened to me either. I think people who are more open minded about it (ghost agnosts, for want of a better word) rarely get the phenomena, but the sceptics and easily scared do most of the time. On the ghost tour that I was in I was with two of my friends. One was a total sceptic, while the other believes in it. Well, in one of the haunted stops they both felt someone brushing against their legs, even though they were wearing jeans and we were standing against a brick wall. I was standing right next to them, and felt absolutely nothing.

To be honest though, if I was a ghost I wouldn't stay in one spot. That's so boring! I'd be travelling the world, learn a language or two. Hey, if you have an eternity right? And you have no restrictions, being incorporeal and all. Maybe I'll even travel through galaxies and discover new worlds. THEN I'll haunt a scientist and show them my discoveries. You know, actually contribute to humankind instead of just haunting people for the shits :D

I use to be really into the whole paranormal thing too when I was younger. I loved listening to ghost stories or read them online while I'm home alone even though they totally freaked me out!

It's so creepy just to think about it!! I believe 50% 50%… I think going on a ghost tour, you absolutely welcome it already… but if you were to do it unexpectedly, the results could be something different. I remember those days when I used to sit and watch about Canada's haunted stories. *shudders*

Yes! It IS the sceptics that always get spooked, whereas we "ghost agnosts" (great description) always seem to miss out.
I would SO travel to new dimensions and haunt scientists too! Ghosts maust make scientific discoveries all the time.. it must be frustrating for them to try to communicate their knowledge to we ignorant mortals!
You've got me feeling all philosophical and wanting to think about the mysteries of the universe now!
