Hmm… well! I went on another market hop yesterday and was especially excited about Finder’s Keepers, which is a bi-annual markets for upcoming Australian designers. This would be the first time I’ll be there, so naturally I dressed in my market best. Besides, it was also my best friend’s birthday. That’s reason enough to dress up, hmm?

So first, a rather filling brunch to off start the day. My friend had eggs benedict and coffee with three shots (my tastebuds almost exploded when I had a sip). I, on the other hand, had strong English breakfast and some green eggs and ham (loved the Dr Seuss reference so I had to try it out). Turned out the “green” in the eggs were basil and herbs, and it was absolutely delicious.

And then it was off to Balmain and Glebe. Bought myself a pair of sunglasses (because my old ones broke and I haven’t had any sunnies for 4 months now… so a justified buy yes?). I also gave my friend her birthday present, which was an antique lapis lazuli (her favourite stone) necklace, which I am relieved to report she was very happy about

And then it was off to Finders Keepers. I must admit I was a little disappointed when we arrived there. I mean sure, the plushie mushroom decorations were pretty cute, but I suppose I expected the stalls to be selling stuff that are absolutely unique, things that I won’t find anywhere else. And it’s true that there were stand-out stalls (like that stall that sold hair accessories. I’m still waiting for their mail to arrive), but the majority were simply overpriced and uninspired. Maybe I’m just being extremely harsh. I don’t know. But I just cannot justify paying $100 for simple tops made of itchy potato-sack fabric, or an eco tote with a circle of fabric as the “design” which I know they bought from Lincraft, and I know this because I own that fabric. It would have been alright if they did something to that fabric. But just cutting it out in a circle and then sewing it on a tote? Come on… that’s not very original.
Sorry if that came across as whinge-y, but hell that’s my opinion.
Now for the Fridge Shot (aka What I wore):

Next week I shall be going to the first ever Redfern Markets, which is great, since that’s just 10 minute’s walk from uni
what an incentive to go to uni on a Saturday!

I love your style! You know how to rock an awesome hat!!
The eggs sound so yum too btw.
Aww, your friend is so preeeetty! i'm glad you both had a lovely day
I totally know what you mean about the markets though- there are some like that here in Melbs, and while there is some cute stuff, there is also an awful lot of things i have seen before a squillion times! And yes, overpriced BIG TIME. Luckily you're a creative gal who could whip up your own one- off creations anyhoo. But still, it is disappointing when you're ready for a bit of a shop, and don't find the originality you'd hoped for! Grrr. Having said that though, markets are always fun to go check out
Have fun and the next one! And hopefully find some awesomeness!

Aww thanks doll! *hug*
And I agree. I also like supporting indie artists because I know that every single patronage counts to keep that dream from sinking at its infancy, and I know how hard it is to break through, even if you have the talent and imagination to match the existing big timers (like the ones that rip other people’s designs: print, cut and all, and then claim it as their own *cough*allanahhill*cough*). I bought a cardigan at Finder’s Keepers because I saw the craftmanship was just insane, and for me that’s money well spent. But dishing $100 for a potato sack? Hmm… sorry babe.

It’s the first ever Redfern markets, but sadly I’ll have to miss it because my sister’s dragging me to her boyfriend’s birthday lunch
Next month I’ll definitely try to go though
