Every uni has a well guarded secret kept jealously from the eyes of the outsider. Apparently this is one of UTS’.

There’s a popular, hidden, and cheap Japanese restaurant close to the UTS library that sources say is a favourite haunt of UTS students before 5:30. That’s because they have a set menu that’s only $5.50 + bottomless Miso bowl!

I went there last week with the said sources to try it out. It’s at Prince Centre right across the Wilson parking lot, very close to the UTS library. The restaurant is Daruma Japanese Restaurant. Can’t be bothered to describe where exactly it’s “hidden” so you can just click here.

There were only 6 types of meals to choose from their $5.50 menu and, not feeling particularly adventurous, I just ordered a katsudon.

It was DELICIOUS. The miso soup was DELICIOUS. The meal was proportioned just right. No wonder UTS students keep this to themselves.
