Maruyu – Sydney’s Japanese Conbini. Known more popularly as The $2.50 Shop, it is located at the very convenient Clarence St, 5 mins walk from Town Hall. It has 2 levels: the bottom level is the supermarket whilst the upper level is for other Japanese knick knacks. I’ve only very recently found out about them at the beginning of the year, so the novelty hasn’t worn off yet. I really love this store <3 sure beats 7/11 ANYDAY.
Almost all of the people in my Japanese class knows about this little wonder. From bath buddies to hair dyes, nail polish of all colours, countless face masks (very good face masks, might I add!), Shiseido shampoos, Sunkira sunscreens, phone accessories, pet accessories, Hello Kitty accessories, kitchen supplies, eating supplies, and bento supplies.
My favourite buy from there is a $2.50 phone charm. It’s a chocolate roll, and just looking at it makes my mouth water…

lolitaangel: I’m majoring in Japanese Studies at uni. There are also Japanese courses offered at TAFE and community colleges around Sydney. I think there’s one near Granville but I think they’ve already started…
